The majority of proposals funded by Girard Foundation are submitted by invitation from the Foundation itself. Unsolicited proposals are welcomed, however, as long as they fall within the Foundation's three focus areas:
  • Educational leadership
  • College and career preparedness
  • High quality charter schools

The Girard Foundation prefers projects that:

  • Focus on improving K-12 education in San Diego County
  • Encourage innovation in education
  • Are transferable, model programs
  • Show potential for sustainability
  • Demonstrate measurable outcomes
  • Involve collaboration between the public and private sectors

Applicants must have tax-exempt status. The Foundation does not fund:

  • Endowments
  • Capital campaigns
  • General operating support
  • Political campaigns or lobbying efforts
  • Direct grants to individuals

Recipients of Girard Foundation grants are required to provide regular progress reports and evidence of results to the Foundation.
